Bridgestone to Halve Rubber Use by 2020. Overlooking the obvious solution of cutting sales in half, Bridgestone clearly has developed a significant new technology here and plan to take full advantage of it. The article does not hint at what it is; I'd be quite curious to know.

This has got to be a HUGE technological development. I can't wait to hear what this is!!!
I hope this is something nuts like a bioengineered hevea tree that makes the rubber already compounded, instead of the more likely manufacturing improvement that cuts down on waste. Even if it's a boring manufacturing improvement 50% is a big number.
